A Brief History Of The Radio

It is expect that nearly every household in the united States has at least one radio. The invention of the radio was dependent upon two previous discoveries: the electromagnet and telegraph.

The electromagnet was discovered in 1825. This discovery opened the doors to global communication! Five years later, Joseph Henry successfully transmitted an electric current via wire which was stretched over a mile and which caused an electromagnet to trigger the sounding of a bell. Thus, the electric telegraph was born. One of the most recognizable names associated with the telegraph is Samuel Morse who is most notable for the series of dots (brief sound) and dashes (more sustained sound) which was used to transmit messages by alphabet code (thus known as Morse Code). Telegraph became the sole means of rapid long distance communication until 1877 and the invention of the telephone.

Batteries are interesting, aren`t they? Used by the general consumer, they are small, but powerfully packed instruments which produce power used for many cameras, alarm clocks, radios, and other devices. What makes this power production possible? In the case of the telephone and it`s early design and use, batteries produced the essential source of power for the electromagnet.

Batteries have two ends to which one is assigned a `+` or positive, and the other a `-` or negative. When a battery operated device is switched on, the electrons which are produced by the batteries, quickly move from the negative side to the positive side of the batteries. Something was needed to interrupt this rapid flow of electrons or find the batteries totally expended in a brief time. In order to accomplish this, a wire is often inserted between the positive and negative terminals and a `load`, such as a radio, creating a small magnetic field in the wire. The electromagnetic waves which are present now, have the capability to transmit sounds (speech, music, and so on) as well as visual images undetected by sight through the air.

There are several scientists who must be mentioned as essential to the telephone as it is known to most of us. Mahlon Loomis created wireless telegraph. Guglielmo Marconi, proved the possibility of radio communication. In 1985 Marconi, transmitted and received a radio signal. Using the Morse alphabet, he sent the first wireless signal which was transmitted across the English Channel and in due time, he was able to receive the Morse letter S which began in England and reached Newfoundland which became the beginning of transatlantic radiotelegraphy (1902).

wireless signals gained far reaching use as a means of communication for rescue work when an accident or disaster occurred at sea. In 1899 the united States Army began utilize wireless communication which originated from a lightship off fire Island. The US Navy was about two years behind the Army in utilizing wireless telegraphy.

In 1903, President Roosevelt (Theodore) and King Edward VII communicated via this new and improving technology. The well known Robert Perry, using radiotelegraphy, conveyed the message that he had `found the Pole`.

The first AM radio entered the world of telecommunication in the early 1900`s. This device made the use of somewhat weak waves possible for communication. This was the time when the term `radio`, as we know today for radio devices, began to be used.

It is believed that in December 23, 1900, professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden was the first person to successfully transmit human voice by radio waves. By 1915, speech was first sent across the united States beginning in New York City and sent to San Francisco. Somewhat later, transmission occurred across the Atlantic Ocean from Arlington, Virginia, to Paris at the Eiffel Tower.

It is truly fascinating all the scientists and the physics theories that led to the invention of the radio. Marconi, Alexander Popov, Oliver Lodge, Fessenden and many others, have all made important contributions to an invention that made the world so different, that most likely none of them would envision. The radio era was born.

Tips for Improving Your Golf Driver Play

Practice these golf driving tips and instructions at practice ranges. These instructions will help you to get longer yard range at the tee.

Almost every golfer is trying to get more distance off the tee. Always remember that the driver is the most difficult club in the bag to hit, due to the amount of loft being the least. Hence, for even a small miss, the error is going to be larger than with a nine iron.

Imagine yourself on the tee box of your favorite shot 4 par. You have your driver club in hand. The hole is designed with risk reward. If you hit the ball long and straight, you can get very near or maybe on the green and can setup a birdie. But if you miss-hit, you stare down at the barrels. You may get o/b or balloon score.

Distance is determined by the clubhead speed. The faster you swing the club, the farther the ball will travel. Driving the golf ball long and straight is the holy grail of almost all amateur golfers. An average player generally uses his arms to move the club faster, and this leads him to problems and inconsistency. Instead, he must try to make a solid contact. It is better to hit the ball in the center of the clubhead speed of 90 miles an hour than to hit the ball on the toe of the clubhead at 100 miles an hour.

It is important to focus on swinging in tempo, with a smooth move. Make a full shoulder turn away from the ball and think about turning your back to the target. Make a full rotation while swinging through and face the target. Above all it is important to stay in balance.

Incorporating these tips will take lots of practice, but as long as you keep working on the fundamentals.

  • Watch and imitate good players. Imitation is one of the best methods of learning.
  • Never watch players who are struggling, unless you want to imitate their swings.
  • Practice.
  • Practice wherever possible - on the driving range, in your living room, or even your backyard. You dont have to leave your home to get quality practice.
  • Complete concentration must be on your practice. Its much better to spend ten minutes and concentrate on what youre doing than spend an hour just whacking balls.
  • If youre hitting a too may balls, take breaks at regular intervals.
  • Think about what youre doing, and rest when youre tired and frustrated.
  • Dont wear sun glasses they impair your depth perception.
  • It is extremely rude to give unsolicited advice to your friends or strangers, even if you believe that your advice will help them
  • Walk the course. Professional golfers always walk. The reason being that, walking gives you more time to concentrate on your next shot. And it actually improves the speed with which you play.
  • Have a professional videotape your swing, then watch it, and analyze it.

Sports Clothes and Girls

When women started entering the world of sports, they had to deal with a lot of prejudice. The then male dominated sports industry scoffed at the idea that women would be competing in various manly sports. They believe that the place of women were in the home and not in the track and field or diamond field. Well, nowadays you won't even think that women are incapable of competing in such "manly sports". women today have shown as capable of dominating sports like track and field, tennis, basketball, etc.

But with due to the increasing number of women athletes, clothing manufacturers and sports experts have begun developing the right clothing for them. women athletes have some specific needs that need to be addressed in order for them to compete properly in some sporting events. Researchers have come up with high-tech performance fabrics that help create sports apparel that are both comfortable and function for the women athlete.

A lot of sports stores today offer a complete line of women and girls sports apparel. You can find for example, sports bras made of spandex materials that feature high necklines which provide full coverage and maximum support. Designers have thought of incorporating arched seams and used the right combination of hook-and-eye closures to provide an extremely strong hold. Some sports bras also have wide elastic panels to keep the bra in place.

Aside from the serious women athletes, a lot of women out there enter sports just to have fun or just to stay fit. There are already a lot of women sportswear stores that cater to the needs of this group of women.

If you go to your nearest department store or sports clothing shop, it is almost certain that you'll find a number of sports fashion line that mixes together unique fabrics and the newest and hottest fashion designs. Fashion designers for years have been into designing sports clothing. They have created sportswear for the various types of women sport activities. These include aerobics, fitness activities, running, yoga, golf and tennis. The main premise that fashion designers try to uphold is for women enjoy a good work out while looking attractive and feeling sexy.

This only proves that sports shops should not limit their target market to professional women athletes. They have a wide market base of women who are simply into sports just for the heck of it. And these women are more than willing to spend to get the appropriate clothing. sports clothing stores should also offer simple women sportswear like shirts, pants, shorts, as well as various accessories in a myriad of colors and designs.

Soccer in Scotland

Scotland has throughout its history been playing soccer. Historically Scottish soccer players werent limited to 11 players per team, whole villages of Scottish soccer devotees used to challenge other villages to a game.

The rules of soccer at that point werent very uniform and there was little if any provisions against violence, because of this attempts were made to outlaw the game, with King James I even saying in Parliament, "That na man play at the Fute-ball" (No man shall play football/soccer). Despite the attempts of clerics, sheriffs, mayors and even a King the game was kept alive by Scottish soccer players.

As times changed soccer became a widely accepted sport again, firstly being played at school and universities. At these institutions the rules for soccer were formalized to something closely resembling todays game. The games popularity then spread beyond the school campuses, and local soccer clubs were formed, soccer became a popular spectator sport with blue-collar workers.

With the wide acceptance and popularity of soccer, the World's first international game was set up, between Scotland and england. The game took place on 30 November 1872. The Scottish side was one of Scotlands oldest and most established soccer club, Queens Park. Two thousand people came to the game and saw the last and possibly biggest revolution in the playing of the game. The Scottish team introduced a whole new aspect to the game that day, a team based approach utilizing, passing. Up till then the way the game was played was to muscle the ball up the field in Rugby like fashion, after that game the English began adopting a playing style to match the Scottish soccer team, and Soccer in its current form was born.

The Scottish soccer team did not exist that day in the form that we now understand; soccer was played by Universities or Clubs, with no central organization to elect a national team. There was no Scottish team picked from the best players around, but a club to represent the whole country. To cope and control the rising popularity of the game Scotland formed a Football Association three month after the first match between england and Scotland. Wales then followed and formed a FA in 1875, and then Ireland in 1880. england on the other hand had formed their Football Association in 1863. With the formation of a Football Association, Scotland was able to establish leagues, tournament and even a national team.

With forty two different professional teams over two different leagues, it is understandable that Scotland has some of the most dedicated Soccer fans in the world; this also applies to the female fans. Scotland has also always had a strong legion of female soccer lovers and players. Seeming to always be pioneers in the game Scotland and england were also the first two countries to have an international womans match. fifty three thousand people came to watch this event, in which unfortunately the Scottish soccer team lost 22-0.

Soccer is in the hearts of the Scotts, it always was, and always will be part of their heritage. Visit us at Scottish Heirloom Jewelry, to see how we can help you celebrate your heritage and love of soccer.

Diabetes - The Emotional Side

Looking back nearly fifteen years ago when I first suspected I had diabetes, several emotions played a rather substantial part in my diseases development. Any one of them at any given time could have made the disease much worse and made my life in general worse.

The physical aspects of diabetes are well chronicled. The emotional aspects maybe not so well. Here is a partial list of the emotions I experienced and the impact they had on me.

DENIAL. When I first was told I had diabetes this was the first emotion I had. Maybe it was the nonchalant way the Dr. told me I had the disease in my life. He didnt handle it very well which set the stage for my feelings. Those feelings only prolonged my getting control of the disease. Getting control of diabetes at an early stage of development is critical.

ANGER. The next emotion I remember having was anger. After the news set in and I began to get a grip on my situation I was mad. Mad at my Dr., mad at GOD, just mad at everything for getting my simple life so complicated. Mad at my new disease for turning my life up side down in my very prime.

WITHDRAWAL. I have always been an outgoing type. The retail food biz sort of demands that. When I got the news of my new disease (looking back in hindsight) I can see how slowly I began to withdraw and become more introverted. My personality slowly started changing as well. I became more serious and less fun loving.

DEPRESSION. Without sounding overly dramatic, there were/are times when I became depressed with my newfound disease. All the changes I had to make in my diet; the long list of meds arising from complications; the never ending (for me ) battle of weight loss; the stress of knowing the complications that can develop from my inaction; the list goes on.

Those were the major emotions I experienced-there are others. What to do about it? The most important thing is to have a great support team surrounding you-family, spouse, doctor, nutritionist, etc. all those who can provide the emotional support you will need to cope with this disease. There are support groups at most hospitals that may help too.

The next thing is to know as much as you can about the disease. Only thru knowledge can you have any chance of success in fighting this horrific disease.

Wireless Headsets

Wireless headsets should be among the Wonders of the World technologically speaking. A headset gives one the ability to work hands-free at almost any task while talking on the phone, teleconferencing, and other tasks. It is a highly specialized piece of equipment that comes with many options designed to make telecommunications more convenient, clearer, and faster. Each manufacturer offers basically the same handset technology with different frequencies, options, and somewhat different devices. So many choices make it difficult to select the best one to meet your needs so try to keep the following basic features in mind when gathering information: the obvious and primary advantage to a headset is the ability it provides to talk or listen without the use of a handheld phone receiver or microphone and speakers.

It is important to first be sure that the headset is compatible with your phone system. All else is incidental as far as the different levels of hands-free operation it provides with each set attempting to provide more options than others. All sets are capable of converting existing calls to wireless calls but not all headsets have the ability to answer remote. remote capability requires a handset lifter or hook switch. Some sets provide command by speaking into the boom mike while others require button pressure or that the call be connected by manually answering the phone first or starting the headset on the computer.

Take time to check out all options before purchase and be sure it fits any need you may encounter. Headsets are available in two frequencies 2.4GHz and 900MHz. The 2.4GHz provides clearer calls with a longer range of distance, and the 900MHz provide good range but are prone to interference. The range of headsets is anywhere between 100 feet and 250 feet depending on the model and frequency. The number of headsets that may be used in a given area might be of concern to some businesses and individuals. The number depends on the environment and the specific headset, but this information will be noted in the accompanying literature. Bluetooth wireless technology has changed wireless technology including the headset. They permit quick switching from one device to another and provided all devices are Bluetooth compatible, one can go from computer or relay to a telephone and back quickly.

Headsets are easily moved from device to device as well as from location to location depending on the users needs. The boom mike and earpiece flexibility and size must be considered as they come in a variety of sizes and styles. There are ear buds, single earpiece sets, and double earpiece sets. Each provides a different level of mobility and hearing capability when wearing, and it is important that the headset fit comfortably on the head or in the ear. Be sure the mike is appropriate for your needs as they are available in solid, flexible, or adjustable. It is important that the choice be individualized according to needs so that it may be used with a minimum of difficulty and provides maximum functionality and comfort.

Headsets are excellent technological gadgets that provide ease and convenience in communications around the world. Check out all the available models with your needs in mind.

Having A Ball with X-Box Games

I love playing video games. I love it so much that I even have two video games systems at home an x box and a Playstation. I used to play with my Playstation most of the time because it had all the games that I love to play. But recently Ive noticed that I now have an extensive collection of x box games and my Playstation has been collecting dust in a corner.

It all began a year ago when I saw the x box in my neighbors multi family yard sale. He wanted to get rid of it because his son has been spending all of his me on it and I was able to get for a reasonably low price. And since he also had lots of x box games to go with the system I was able to get them for a few bucks as well. I was able to get my favorite fighting games for a lot less money than of have I bought them from a video game store.

The x box game that Ive grown to really love is the Dance Dance Revolution. Its a new type of game that combines a workout with the normal gaming experience. Its a revolutionary video game that tries to accurately simulate dancing. At the time that I bought the game I had no idea that it would be challenging.

To my surprise it was quite difficult and I actually felt that I was really dancing as I played the game. Its amazing to play a game that stimulates your mind while giving you a cardio-vascular exercise.

X box games can cost quite a lot and I learned that it would be wise to rent a game from a video store to determine if its worth buying. However, Dance Dance revolution was the exception. Its the only game that was more convenient to buy than to having rent the game and the mat. The idea of using a mat that was used by other people seemed quite unhygienic.

X box games on ebay can also be bought for less money than those on video games stores so I go there to check out some games. The most economical way to get new games is to trade games with other x box gamers but you have to make sure than you ca get your games back. In recent months the only games I buy are the ones that Ill really like and of course, the exceptional Dance Dance Revolution.

Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning X box Games. Get more information by visiting http://www.xtraordinarysite.com/games/games/having-a-ball-with-x-box-games.html.
